Etching a Brighter Path - ATIC

The experience of 60 young Emiratis – thirty men and thirty women – who worked this summer in the world’s most sophisticated semiconductor factory was captured on film by an Emirati director, and their story will be shown on Abu Dhabi television this weekend.

The documentary, entitled “Etching a Brighter Path,” will begin showing on three channels: National Geographic, Al Emarat and Al Oula, over the weekend of October 21- 24. The 60 students were part of the elite “Al Nokhba” internship program, conducted in Dresden, Germany, in a high-tech manufacturing plant operated by GLOBALFOUNDRIES and owned by the Advanced Technology Investment Company of Abu Dhabi. The internship program is cosponsored by ATIC and the Abu Dhabi Education Council.

The film was also submitted to the Abu Dhabi Film Festival’s 2010 ‘Best Documentary’ category. Showcasing the enthusiasm of the students involved in the industry, the documentary aims to educate and build understanding among audiences in Abu Dhabi of the strategic importance of the advanced technology sector in the Emirate’s future vision.

“ATIC’s role is to help create a vibrant technology ecosystem in Abu Dhabi that will become a global hub for advanced manufacturing, research and innovation. But doing this successfully relies on the availability of an engaged and highly educated workforce,” said Ibrahim Ajami, CEO of ATIC. “The Al Nokhba Internship at GLOBALFOUNDRIES aims to inspire and create the next generation of Abu Dhabi future technology pioneers. This film highlights the overwhelmingly positive experience the students had in Dresden and the opportunities that are available for those who are interested in this field.”
