Employee driven career management

Yesterday at the Emiratisation Forum in Abu Dhabi H Amin Carter touched on very interesting concept. He spoke about special project he is driving in ADCO. "Profile me" is project name used for employee driven career management in ADCO.

The idea behind this project is to take career planing and career management initiative over to employees. Employee profiles within this interactive intranet system will be a compilation of  info from employee records (e.g. performance management, interview notes, aptitude tests, etc.) and employee generated content. Every employee will have an opportunity to showcase some of their less visible skills and/or academic qualifications. This will result in ever more transparent talent landscape map for corporations.

Additionally this system should enable employees to utilize power of social networking. All users could form their networks of contacts and keep up to date with career and professional progress of their network members. This is significant as it will enable employees to form relationships beyond their departments or immediate scope of work. Professional social networks like LinkedIn and Xing have proved their worth, so one should expect the same from internal system as well.
